About Us

 From the Beginning: July 2010

The Board of Directors of the Hawaii Boating & Fishing Association has been newly established to guide and direct the efforts of our membership to effect real change at Honokohau Harbor and other harbors and ocean facilities throughout our island.  These facilities have been neglected by the State of Hawaii through its boards, such as DOBOR, its officials, and its many facility employees.

MISSION STATEMENT

OUR MISSION is to ensure fair and effective management of our harbors, our boating facilities, and all ocean activities.
OUR STRATEGY is to represent the community on issues that affect our harbors, their users, and their activities, by working with State and Federal Agencies, and others, to help ensure community access to the ocean, and that these facilities are improved, maintained and kept clean for our citizens and our many visitors.

Today the harbors are steeped in decay, unacceptably maintained, with unapproachable and devious management - now proposing and planning excessive new fees for parking and moorings to support everything but our harbors and ocean facilities.  The government seems to have forgotten that our ocean facilities are a way of life for many, a destination for all the ocean loving people of Hawaii, and a unique resource for our visitors and tourists upon whom we all depend.

NOW, as with all wrongs, it's time to stand up, take a position, and demand common sense resolution to these wrongs, even if it means legal action!  Your Board is dedicated and committed to these challenges. We need your help in many ways, and we need your financial support.  So, please contact us and share your thoughts, experiences and offers of help. We need volunteer helpers in many areas and you should know that your Board members are all volunteers too, contributing endless hours and a great deal of cash and in kind services, so please help!

If you are comfortable with having the most neglected harbors in the United States, read no further!  But if you are also dissatisfied, please join us. Visit the detail sheets explaining the many issues, and please call one of your DIRECTORS.  Let us answer your questions and please offer your help and resources.
